Dear Parents and Carers,

This week

We’ve had a busy week here at Kirn!

On Wednesday, our P6s and P7s walked to the Queen’s Hall for their STEM event! Many schools joined together to experience a variety of activities and events including watching the Royal Marines do a sea-based demonstration at the East Bay! Thank you very much to Digital Learning Team for organising this fantastic event and to Mrs. Wilson and the staff team who arranged the trip.

On Friday we had the pleasure of watching our P4 classes assembly on their IDL topic, The Jacobites! The children had done so much preparation for this including learning songs, creating props and learning their lines. It was absolutely brilliant! A huge thanks to Mrs. Stewart, Miss. Lamont, Miss Mitchell, Mrs McArthur and Miss Beattie for preparing this beautiful assembly for us to enjoy!

On Sunday, it was the Dunoon Swimming Club Championships. Some of them were Kirn Primary pupils and they did fantastic! Well done.

This will be my last newsletter at Kirn as my final day here is next Wednesday. I have absolutely loved getting to know you all and your wonderful children. Thank you for having me as your Headteacher for this past year and a half. I will always look back with fondness at my time here and will always be wishing the best for KPS’s pupils, staff and parent community. Maybe I will see you again in Helensburgh!

Upcoming Events

Wednesday 1st April at 10am- Easter Church Service at Cowal Kirk

In a previous newsletter, we shared that school would close at 1pm on Thursday 2nd April. However, the correct time is 2:30pm. Apologies for the confusion.

School vision

Last term we began to gather views on our Kirn Primary School Vision, as it was time to refresh it and make sure all stakeholders had their views heard. We are keeping our Kirn Values the same as these are very well referred to and understood by our pupils (Kindness, Inspiring, Respectful and Nurture) and our motto is Excellence, Equality and Effort, as you can find on our school crest. However, we do not have a whole school vision that we are all familiar with and agree. At parents’ evening we started to gather views using a survey and I am sending out the link again today to ask that you kindly complete it so that we have your views. Once this has been collated, we will launch it at a community event before Easter! Here is the link, it will also go out on SeeSaw. https://www.menti.com/aljh6i2acxgw

Report from head pupils

This week has been an amazing one!

P1a and P1b have had the ambulance service and Radiographer in to talk about their jobs because of their community topic.

P3/2 have done a STEM challenge where they built boats out of paper because of their transport topic.

P4a and P4b are holding an assembly on the Jacobites!

P6/5 all built their Antonine Walls out of Lego and blocks.

P6 are collecting bottle caps and other plastic lids for Girl Guides.

P5, P6, P6/5, P6/7 and P7 went on a STEM trip to the Queen’s Hall with many other schools to look at jobs that are to do with the ocean.

The P7s went on a trip to Benmore to do fun activities and meet new people!

Thank you for reading our report!

Have a lovely weekend!

The weather has kept us on our toes this week, I hope that it will be a sunny weekend for us all! Have a wonderful Easter break when it comes and please note that we will finish at 2:30pm on Thursday, not 1pm as previously stated.

Best wishes,

Verity

Head Teacher
