Winners this week!

Dear Parents and Carers,

This week

With Mrs. Lundy visiting her new school it is my pleasure to bring you the news this week from Kirn Primary.

It has been assessment week here at Kirn Primary.  The staff look at assessment data at different points of the year.  This helps to inform next steps and identify any need for intervention or challenge.  The pupils also use this opportunity to think about individual targets building their self-motivation and sense of achievement which, as we know, is so important for every learner.

We were delighted to welcome Generation Science from Edinburgh Science on Tuesday and Wednesday this week.  Cath and Ellie brought a world of science with them, challenging P4, P5 and P6 pupils to hypothesise and test theories through interactive science experiments.

The bad weather on Tuesday did not dampen the enthusiasm for Lindsay Mitchell and Sara Hawley from Active Schools as they delivered bike confidence lessons for some of our P1 pupils.  Dressed in full waterproofs pupils worked hard to develop their skills and confidence resulting in some who were even able to start peddling independently! What a great achievement!

After a wet start to the beginning of the week pupils and staff were delighted to see the return of the sun on Thursday and Friday.  Not only did this give classes the opportunity to bring their learning outside we were able to bring some of the sunny day activities into playtime and lunchtime.  The upper playground enjoyed making chalk patterns and games whilst the lower playground enjoyed the music and dancing – we may have some budding popstars at KPS!

A reminder that our two parents’ evenings are planned for next Tuesday and Thursday.  Please check your emails for the link to parent booker where you can confirm a slot to speak to your child’s teacher at a time that is convenient.

School vision

Last term we began to gather views on our Kirn Primary School Vision, as it was time to refresh it and make sure all stakeholders had their views heard. We are keeping our Kirn Values the same as these are very well referred to and understood by our pupils (Kindness, Inspiring, Respectful and Nurture) and our motto is Excellence, Equality and Effort, as you can find on our school crest. However, we do not have a whole school vision that we are all familiar with and agree. At parents’ evening we started to gather views using a survey and I am sending out the link again today to ask that you kindly complete it so that we have your views. Once this has been collated, we will launch it at a community event before Easter! Here is the link, it will also go out on SeeSaw. https://www.menti.com/aljh6i2acxgw

Report from head pupils

This week P1b have had Active Schools work with a few children to encourage cycling confidence.

P4a have been learning about Jacobites and have been practising the re-enactment of the Battle of Culloden.

P3 have been doing a Dictionary challenge, learning alphabetical order. Well done to Jacob! Our class champion this week.

P3/2 have been making models of transport and been learning about place value.

P5 made their own batteries using 2p coins, zinc and cardboard soaked in vinegar.

P6/5 made soda bread for St. Patrick’s Day and also did a running battle.  The soda bread was delicious!

Quotes:

Lucas – “I am enjoying P.E.”

Gabriel – “I’ve been really enjoying stemovators”
