What a week of excitement this week has been! We were all so fully engaged with the mysterious appearance of a boat and strange chest that appeared in our playground on Thursday. Our children had so much curiosity around how they had got here and why. They used this to create some fantastic writing across the whole school.  

We all came together this afternoon to show how creative we have been with our thinking and share our writing in an assembly led by Mrs Adams and Mrs Wilson. 

At Monday’s assembly we celebrated the life of Dolly Parton, who was such an iconic figure for many people. She was instrumental in encouraging children to read by providing books for children all over the world and supporting reading initiatives. We heard her story ‘Coat of Many Colours’, which celebrated the love shared by a family even through times of hardship. She showed a determination to succeed and a positive attitude to achieving her dreams which we want to encourage in all our young people. 

Many of our children were involved in interviews this week for positions of responsibility within the school. We had members of our local community and staff involved in the interviews and the standard was extremely high. We now have a strong Pupil Leadership team who will support and help with the running of the school – positions available included Library Leaders, Janitorial Team, MUGA Coaches, Playground Buddies and Technical Team. Election results for the positions of House and Vice Captains were announced and again, the quality of speeches were impressive. 

Our P4 and P4/3 classes have been busy making jam this week, after their berry picking in previous weeks. It looks delicious and we can’t wait to try it! 

Looking forward to next week, we have school photos on Monday and Tuesday, so remember to look your best! Mr Ronnie Cairns is coming into school, and he is always so good at putting our children and staff at ease 😀. 

On a final note, we kindly ask parents and carers to regularly check your child’s hair for head lice, particularly if they have been scratching their head more than usual. Coming back to school after summer quite often results in a wee outbreak of headlice. Head lice are quite common among school-aged children and can spread easily through close contact. Early detection and prompt treatment help to prevent them from spreading to others. If you find head lice or eggs, please begin treatment as soon as possible and continue checking all family members.
