Dear Parents and Carers,
This week
We’ve had another busy week at Kirn.
Our PTA will be holding a Beetle Drive on Tuesday 24th March. We will also be having a dress down day on the last day of term Thursday 2nd April with a suggested donation of £1, to raise funds for the PTA. These funds go directly towards creating fun experiences for our pupils and all donations are greatly appreciated.
On Wednesday we had the Good Food Marlet at Kirn, organised by Cowal Kirk Church’s Lorna McGinnigal, Laura Mitchell and the team! The recipe was Katie Mitchell’s ‘Spring Risotto’ and we hope you enjoyed making it at home with your families. Thank you as ever to Lorna and the Church team for sharing this wonderful project with our community!
Mrs. Stewart held her first Crochet Club on Thursday, which had over 20 pupils in attendance! There is also a waiting list for this popular club! Thank you Mrs.Stewart for organising this lovely club, we look forward to seeing what you make!
A huge thank you to Mr. Taylor, who gave his time on Friday to put up our new goal posts! They are looking fantastic and he had some expert help from Ghillie, Caol, Caleb and Summer. Thank you again to Ghillie, his mum Amy, Summer and Caleb for this brilliant idea and for inspiring this project!
We have seen some great work this week at Kirn;
P1a have created a map of Dunoon linked to the P1 community topic.
P1b have continued to have visitors in about jobs they do in the community and this week Maeve’s dad, James, came in to talk about how he supports vulnerable members of the community.
P2 have been discussing healthy eating and encouraging pupils to bring in healthy snacks.
P3/2 have been using ‘junk’ to make model vehicles!
P4 have been continuing their Jacobite topic and have made Jacobite oat cakes. There was also joy in P4 as three of their times tables groups moved up their Times Tables league!
P5 have made turbines and have been exploring hydroelectric power.
P6 have been continuing their Roman topic this week making Scutums (Roman shields)
Thank you very much to the P7 parents who have donated towards the P7 events fund and also to the parents who took part in the abseil alongside Mrs Thompson, Mrs Adams and Miss Lamont last Friday. Donations can still be accepted. Without these we will not be able to provide the range of leaver events that we would like to. Please give as generously as you can.
Upcoming Events
The first weekend trip to Benmore for P7 on Friday 20th March – Sunday 22nd March.
Beetle Drive Tuesday 24th March 6-8pm
Dress down day Thursday 2nd April
School closes at 1pm on 2nd April!
School vision
Last term we began to gather views on our Kirn Primary School Vision, as it was time to refresh it and make sure all stakeholders had their views heard. We are keeping our Kirn Values the same as these are very well referred to and understood by our pupils (Kindness, Inspiring, Respectful and Nurture) and our motto is Excellence, Equality and Effort, as you can find on our school crest. However, we do not have a whole school vision that we are all familiar with and agree. At parents’ evening we started to gather views using a survey and I am sending out the link again today to ask that you kindly complete it so that we have your views. Once this has been collated, we will launch it at a community event before Easter! Here is the link, it will also go out on SeeSaw. https://www.menti.com/aljh6i2acxgw
