Dear Parents and Carers,

This week

Welcome Back! What a great first week back we have had here in Kirn. It was so lovely to see everyone again and welcome our new families and children to our Kirn Community. Your children have been a credit to you and we’d like to thank you for ensuring that they are here on time and ready to learn. They look so smart and are engaging really well with their learning in their new classes. Long may it continue!

As part of our commitment to partnership working, we have taken on board your concerns from last session and are working to ensure that our communication and systems are robust and transparent. To this end we would like to share with you dates for this term and an overview of key dates and events for the full academic session. Please see these dates outlined in the upcoming events section. Obviously school is a busy environment and quite often ‘the only constant is change’ but we will endeavour to keep you informed of any changes with advance notice.

Here at Kirn our Vision and Values are key to ensuring our children and families feel safe, nurtured and inspired to achieve in all areas. A key element of this is our ‘Good to be Green’ relationships policy. It is in place so that we all feel safe and our good choices are recognised and rewarded and any poor choices result in support being given in a reflective and restorative environment. If you need any more information about this policy please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Part of our policy is to recognise achievement throughout the school. Pupils get positive feedback in a variety of ways every day in class and as efforts are recognised around the school. Children also all received positive feedback at our end of term achievements. Following feedback from last year we have looked at our Star of the Week assemblies and decided that this particular recognition of achievement would have extra value if we made it an ‘Over and Above’ celebration for pupils who have achieved something extra special in any area of the curriculum, behaviour or wider achievements.

The format will be the same, but the assembly will be a ‘Star of the Month’ and not all children will receive an award throughout the year. We hope that this will encourage all pupils to aim to achieve something special. If you want any further clarification or information please get in touch.

You may be aware that we have a new system in place called Parent’s Portal. We would like to encourage all parents to sign up to this new system as this would be very beneficial. The system allows you to be able to submit your child’s absence, book parent’s evening slots, have access to information regarding school trips and grant permissions etc. To be able to access Parent’s Portal you will need to do this through your mygovscot account. Once again, we appreciate all your support with this.
